Accessible Yoga

About Me: “I have a B.S. in Exercise Science and a B.S.N. I worked as an R.N. for many years specializing in all forms of cardiac care with my favorite being Cardiac Rehab. I simultaneously worked as a certified fitness instructor before making the life-altering decision to stay-at-home my two boys. With the boys doing well and almost on their own, I launched myself into yoga teacher training. I completed my 200-hour R.Y.T. in 2019 and merged onto a new and unexpected life path. I went from teaching yoga at Lava Yoga to owning the Lawrence Studio location. Who knew?  Excited to share my passion for yoga with you at “Fest” and through Lava Yoga Lawrence. Namaste”

Greg Fox

BowSpring Yoga

About Me: “There’s a reason it’s called a “practice” and I’m a believer in integrating yoga into everyday life. Being aware of your posture, especially your spine is really powerful. Yoga does not have to be elusive, complicated, or spiritual, but I believe if you become aware of your breath, movements, and posture you can simply spend a bit more time “in the moment.” I try to make a yoga class both a workout and a time to re-charge.

I have always made fitness a priority in my life, honestly believing that this vessel, our body, is a gift that we must honor and take care of. Yoga healed me and strengthened me, but when introduced to Bowspring it was like crossing over into a whole new revelation of being in my skin. The Bowspring recharged my posture, my health, and my desire to teach.  The fluidity and strength seem limitless.”

My Yoga Festival Offering

BowSpring Yoga Breakout Session at 1:30 PM

This class focuses on the natural curves of the spine and movements which incorporate bodyweight training, yoga postures, and meditation. Greg trains in the BowSpring method with creators Desi Springer and John Friend (founder of Anusara Yoga). The predominant focus of these classes follow the BowSpring postural template while incorporating it into traditional yoga postures. This alignment brings a buoyant, powerful, and fluid strength.

The BowSpring classes and workshops progress in four stages: ROOT – increase awareness and explore basic yoga postures, including the warrior series, awkward poses, and alternatives. GROW – add strength, power, bodyweight training, and arm balances. BUILD – predominant focus on core strength, twists, advancing postures, and inversions. FLY – focus on transitioning postures into inversions, headstands, and lightness.

All levels are welcome, but this is an advanced yoga class.

Greg will also be the live artist featured during the 11:00 AM Live Music Community Yoga Class taught by Craig Pruett & Lora Rimmer.

Dances of Universal Peace Breakout Session at 12:15 PM

We will learn some simple chants from the Hindu tradition, along with easy dances that we all can do together while we sing these sacred phrases, experiencing joy and a sense of unity. You could think of it as a “kirtan dance”, or a “moving kirtan”.

Kirtin Breakout Session at 2:45 PM

Come sing with us!  Kirtan is from the Indian tradition of bhakti yoga, the yoga of devotion, and is practiced by group singing of simple mantras and the names of the divine in various archetypical forms.   Kirtan embraces all paths. Whether one comes to kirtan for a sense of community,
the joy of devotion, or the pure love of singing, chanting together can lead us to connect with the peace and stillness that is inherent within each of us. No prior experience is necessary, and lyric sheets with be provided.

Currently, I am deepening my knowledge through Yoga
Medicine’s 500hr training. My extensive movement history and current jobs are natural partners and give me the experience to help students find a way to use and improve their bodies in a healthy, restorative, and joyful way. My class is influenced by many styles of yoga and

“My class strives to challenge all levels of practitioners through flowing movement and sustained holds with a focus on anatomical awareness. This creates a sanctuary for you to get in touch with your body and breath, leaving the class feeling invigorated and open to enjoy all that life brings.”

Mindfulness Chat on Myofascial Release Breakout Session at 4:00 PM

Have you heard about fascia? Recent research shows that fascia, a type of connective tissue, is much more than just that.  It is a network without beginning or end, from the skin, through the entire body, down to the smallest cell. Fascia has been found to greatly affect how our bodies feel as well as the health of the muscles and organs that it supports and surrounds.  Find how all the “movers” in the know are using Myofascial Self Release to repair and maintain their bodies. Join Ambika for this class that will give a brief introduction to what fascia is and why you want to keep it mobile for improved function, as well as instruction and practice on self-release.

This class is appropriate for all people, no yoga or movement experience is required but must be able to get up and down from the floor.

Ashtanga Yoga

About Me: “I began my yoga journey with the ashtanga practice at Maya Yoga in Kansas City in 2008 studying under the original studio owners Kathleen Kastner and Wade Mortenson. Ashtanga Vinyasa has always held a special place in my heart and has been a catalyst in my personal healing and spiritual journey. I completed my 200 hr RYT at Maya in Feb 2022 and am currently teaching Ashtanga Yoga in her hometown of Blue Springs, MO. I am honored by the teachers that I have learned from and to share the lineage with future students of the practice.

My Yoga Festival Offering

Ashtanga Yoga Breakout Session at 2:45 PM

This class will be an hour’s introduction to the primary Ashtanga series. Ashtanga yoga marries breath and movement in a set series of healing asana postures linked by flowing movements (Vinyasas). This style of yoga was popularized by K. Pattabhi Jois who learned the series from Tirumalai Krishnamacharya.

The primary series is referred to as Yoga Chikitsa or “Yoga therapy.” As the student learns the series and subtly focuses on breath, energy locks (bandhas), and gaze (drishti), this style of yoga can evolve into a moving meditation.
