Yoga for Digestive Health

If you have experienced the body phenomena known as “Butterflies” you have experienced STRESS in the Digestive System. Other examples include esophagus spasms, indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, stomach ulcers, Celtics Disease & IBS, etc. When our bodies are under stress, the fight-or-flight response is activated. Within seconds, most of the blood from our internal organs is removed from the digestive system & into the major muscle groups. In return reducing the contractions of the internal organs and lessens the secretion of the fluids needed for Digestion.

This is GREAT when you’re in immediate danger & need to flee, but our body doesn’t understand the difference between the proverbial tiger & stress from home or work. Watching a scary movie has the same impact on your Digestive System.

Between the pranayama practice of pulling the naval into the spine at the end of your exhale, and the asanas, forward folding & twisting, you have the yoga recipe for a healthy digestive system. The videos below are a Yoga for Digestive Health Detox practice & a video explaining more on Yoga for Digestive Health. Such as the benefits of the yoga asanas from the Detoxing Flow Class and which asana to use for relief.
